Birdsong

What a beautiful morning!  This morning I woke to the sound of birdsong echoing through the chimney.  That has never happened before.  I've lived in this house for two years and no birds have ever sung to me through the chimney. It was a beautiful sound.  I think it was one of those God Winks!
I have CDs with birdsong that I play during the winter, so the good Lord knows how much I love birds.  What a wonderful way to start the weekend.

Jobs for Juniors

Last week the class and I worked very hard to have a positive, happy learning environment.  We decided we'd be little soldiers in the army.  The children earn "rank" based on their behavior in class.  The better behavior, the higher the rank.  Some children shouted out, "I'll be a corporal.  I'll be a captain, I wanna be a Lt."  And one child, who has much trouble follwing directions, completing work, staying on task, telling the truth (all the time and not just some of the time), yelled out, "And I'll be the congressman!!"  He picked the perfect job for himself.  I thought he was right on track!  Out of the mouths of babes.....

Sunshine and dryer air-----FINALLY!

Finally some cooler, dryer air!  We've had beautiful weather this past weekend (well it was beautiful for Florida).  My nephew and his wife and two kids came down for a short visit.  He's in the army stationed in Germany and they let him come home for a two week visit.  The hotel they stayed at was right on the beach and had a great "river pool" complete with waterfalls and bridges.  "Pirates" were walking around talking to the kids. I know I should have taken pictures.

Still not used to all this yet, but hope to get better.  I think I'll have to get some kind of techno gadget to post pictures on the blog.

I'm really enjoying most of my class this year! What a blessing!  They love Science and Social Studies best because they are digitally intweractive.  It's a whole new way of teaching since I first started 28 years ago!  I enjoy it a lot.  Just 5 more years till retirement---yeah!  Can't wait to move to a mountainous state like northern Utah.  We'll see what the Lord has in store for me.  You never know what life is holding for you around the bend.

Welcome to Florida---"The Sunshine State" aka The Thunderstorm capital of the Country!

Here we go again!  This Labor Day weekend in the Sunshine State has given us another tropical storm.  Luckily it didn't hit us directly, but we have had a lot of rain.  My backyard is like a marshy area.  Who was the wiseguy to come up with idea of calling Florida the Sunshine State?  Well, at least we have a long weekend and with school just starting back again the kids and the teachers needed it.

Moses, Maddiebelle, and Precious are enjoying having Mom home for extra tummy rubs and play time.  Moses and Maddiebelle are my golden retrievers and Precious is my pekingnese.  I'm going to need a farm if I adopt any more pets!

My class is good this year.  There are 17 boys and 6 girls and most of them are very sweet little 4th graders.  We've had a good start to the year.  This makes my 29th year of teaching!!!  I'll be eligible for retirement in 4 more years--looking forward to that, although I'll probably be a part time substitute when I retire.
Kids are so funny!  One child said, "My mom says I may have to stay in the bathroom a long time today because I'm complicated."  They're a mess!

This is my first blog and so all this is new to me.  I look forward to becoming a pro in the future.  After all, if I can teach "complicated" kids I can do anything.
